Ingredients
- 4 oz light or medium dry red wine, such as Rioja
- 1/2 to 1 oz brandy or rum
- 1 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 medium navel orange, cut into roughly 1-inch pieces, seeds removed
- 1/2 large apple, cored and cut into roughly 3/4-inch dice
- 3 oz club soda or seltzer water, well chilled
- 1/2 tbsp simple syrup, plus more to taste
- Ice, for serving (optional)
- Orange wedges, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, mix the red wine with brandy or rum, and stir in the orange and lemon juices.
- Add the diced orange and apple to the pitcher and twist the orange and lemon zests to release the oils into the mixture, then add the zests to the pitcher.
- Stir to combine, then refrigerate until fully chilled, for at least 2 to 8 hours (preferably around 4 hours).
- Gently stir in the club soda into the pitcher.
- Mix in the simple syrup, adjusting to taste, and add more brandy or rum if desired, followed by additional simple syrup to reach the desired sweetness.
- Optionally, fill glasses with ice, ladle the chilled sangria into glasses, garnish with orange wedges, and serve.
