Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 jalapeno, sliced
  • 1 small bunch cilantro
  • 1 1/2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 3/4 ounce jalapeno simple syrup
  • 1/2 ounce red wine
  • Lime wedge
  • Jalapeno slice

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the sliced jalapeno and cilantro to the sugar-water mixture, then let it sit at room temperature for at least 15 minutes. Strain the mixture when ready to use.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, lime juice, and jalapeno simple syrup with a few ice cubes. Shake for about 10 seconds until chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into a cocktail glass.
  5. Slowly pour red wine over the back of a bar spoon while hovering over the margarita so that it floats on top.
  6. Garnish with a lime wedge or jalapeno slice.
