Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1/4 teaspoon whole allspice berries
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 3/4 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 (2-inch) strips of orange rind
  • 2 (2-inch) strips of lemon rind
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons applejack brandy

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, peppercorns, allspice berries, and cloves. Cook for about a minute.
  3. Add the apple cider, honey, vanilla extract, orange rind, and lemon rind, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the applejack brandy.
  6. Strain the mixture to remove the solids.
