Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (from approximately 1 lemon)
  • 4-6 fresh mint leaves
  • 1-2 tablespoons Bourbon (depending on your tastes)
  • 3/4 cup ginger ale
  • 1 lemon slice (for garnish)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is clear. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  2. Add lemon juice, mint leaves, and Bourbon to the sugar mixture. Allow it to cool.
  3. Pour the mixture through a fine strainer into a glass. This will remove solid particles and mint leaves.
  4. Add ginger ale to the glass and stir to combine.
  5. Prepare the serving glass by dipping the rim into water, lemon juice, or light corn syrup, then into coarse white sugar to create a sugar rim.
  6. Add ice cubes to the glass, pour the cocktail, and garnish with a lemon slice.
