Southern Belle Mint Julep
A classic and elegant cocktail, the Antebellum Mint Julep combines mint leaves, superfine sugar, and cognac to create a refreshing and sophisticated drink that pays homage to the pre-Civil War South.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons superfine sugar
- 6 mint leaves, plus 4 sprigs for garnish
- 2 ounces cognac
- Crushed ice
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- In a highball glass or silver julep cup, stir together the superfine sugar and water until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the mint leaves and gently crush them with a spoon to release their aroma and flavor.
- Fill the glass with crushed ice.
- Pour the cognac over the ice and stir until chilled for about 15 seconds.
- Add more crushed ice to fill the glass.
- Garnish with mint sprigs and add two straws for a traditional presentation.
