Ingredients

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 dashes Angostura or orange bitters
  • 1 teaspoon filtered water
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 2 rosemary sprigs (room temperature)
  • Orange peel for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. In an old fashioned or rocks glass, muddle the sugar cube, bitters, and water until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Fill the glass halfway with ice or add 1 large ice cube.
  3. Pour in the whiskey or bourbon and gently stir to combine.
  4. Twist the orange peel over the glass and place it in the cocktail.
  5. Light one rosemary sprig on fire and hold it a few inches over the cocktail without touching it. Cover the cocktail and the rosemary with the can of a shaker for about 30 seconds.
  6. Remove the shaker and let the smoke release. Clap the remaining rosemary sprig between your hands, then place it in the cocktail.
  7. Serve and enjoy the aromatic experience of the smoky rosemary infusion.
