Ingredients

  • 2 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 oz mezcal
  • 1 oz Madeira wine
  • Whipped cream, for serving
  • Chocolate shavings, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium heat-proof bowl, combine the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and salt.
  2. In a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the heavy cream, granulated sugar, and brown sugar over medium heat until it begins to boil, stirring gently.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and pour the mixture over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth.
  4. For the cocktail, in a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the milk and 1/4 cup of the prepared hot fudge sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Add the mezcal and Madeira, stir to combine, then pour into an 8-ounce glass mug.
  6. Top the hot chocolate with freshly whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Serve immediately.
