Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 Whole Clove
  • 1 Allspice Berry
  • 1/8 of a Vanilla Bean (, slit open vertically)
  • 1 pinch of Kosher Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 fl. oz. Dark Rum
  • Whipping Cream
  • Nutmeg (freshly grated)
  • Optional ((for non-alcoholic version): Rum Extract)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except the rum, whipping cream, and nutmeg in a large slow cooker.
  2. Cook on LOW for 5 1/2 hours, and keep warm if necessary.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove loose spices and any butter solids; return liquid to the slow cooker to keep warm.
  4. To serve, pour rum (or rum extract) into individual mugs, then top with whipping cream and freshly grated nutmeg.
