Ingredients

  • Crushed mini peppermint candy cane for rim
  • 1.70 oz vodka
  • Ice
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the caster sugar and 3.4 fl oz water over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat, stir in the peppermint extract, and let the syrup cool completely.
  3. Transfer the crushed candy cane to a shallow dish.
  4. Dip the rim of a martini glass in water, then in the crushed candy cane. If the pieces don't stick, mix the water with a little icing sugar.
  5. In a jug or cocktail shaker, pour 0.5 fl oz of the homemade peppermint syrup.
  6. Add the vodka and a handful of ice, then stir until the outside of the shaker feels very cold.
  7. Strain the mixture into the prepared martini glass to serve.
