Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh nutmeg
  • 1 egg white
  • Bourbon or brandy (optional)

Instructions

  1. Separate the egg yolk and white.
  2. Whisk the egg yolk with sugar until light in color.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk, cream, and nutmeg until just below boiling temperature.
  4. Slowly drizzle a cup of the hot liquid into the egg yolk while mixing to temper the yolks.
  5. Add the tempered yolks back to the saucepan and heat until it reaches 160 degrees.
  6. Add bourbon or brandy if desired and chill the mixture in the fridge.
  7. Whisk the egg white until stiff peaks form, then fold into the yolk base.
  8. Serve the chilled eggnog with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
