Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1-2 tablespoons bourbon, rum, or Cognac (optional)
- Freshly grated nutmeg, for serving
Instructions
- Crack the eggs and separate the yolks into a medium bowl, and keep the whites in a large bowl.
- Whisk the egg yolks with the granulated sugar until smooth, creamy, and lightened in color.
- Add the whole milk, heavy cream, and liquor (if using) to the egg yolk mixture, and whisk until well combined.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or longer if aging the eggnog.
- Just before serving, beat the reserved egg whites until stiff peaks form using a stand mixer or hand mixer.
- Gently fold or stir the beaten egg whites into the eggnog for a frothy, extra-creamy texture.
- Transfer the eggnog to a pitcher or punch bowl, and serve in individual glasses with a grating of nutmeg on top.
