Golden Thai-Basil Sangria
A delightful twist on the traditional Spanish sangria, this Thai-Basil Sangria is a refreshing blend of Pinot Grigio, brandy, and fresh citrus flavors with a hint of Thai basil.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp water
- 2 Thai basil sprigs
- Zest of 1/2 lemon, peeled in 3-inch strip
- Zest of 1/2 orange, peeled in 3-inch strip
- 3 oz chilled Pinot Grigio
- 1 1/2 oz brandy
- 1 oz fresh orange juice, strained
- Ice
- Chilled club soda
- 2 thin orange slices, for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, bring the sugar and water to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
- Add the Thai basil, lemon zest, and orange zest to the syrup. Let it stand until cooled to room temperature, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes. Remove the basil and zest strips.
- In a large pitcher, combine the basil syrup with the wine, brandy, and orange juice.
- Pour the sangria into ice-filled glasses, top with club soda, and garnish each with an orange slice.
