Ingredients

  • 1/4 oz plain vodka
  • Edible 23-karat gold-leaf sheet
  • 1 oz Rémy Martin XO Cognac
  • 1 oz Pineau des Charentes aperitif wine
  • 1 oz white grape juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup (3 parts water to 1 part sugar)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice, strained
  • Dash of Angostura bitters
  • Veuve Clicquot Champagne, chilled

Instructions

  1. Place the edible gold leaf in a shallow bowl with the plain vodka.
  2. Tear off small pieces of the gold leaf using tweezers and let them float on the vodka, avoiding any squeezing or folding of the gold leaf.
  3. In an iced metal shaker, combine the Rémy Martin XO Cognac, Pineau des Charentes, white grape juice, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and a dash of Angostura bitters. Shake vigorously.
  4. Pour the mixture into a trumpet flute, filling it 3/4 of the way.
  5. Top the flute with chilled Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
  6. Lastly, pour the plain vodka over the cocktail, allowing the gold leaf to gracefully slide onto the surface.
