Ingredients

  • 2 thin slices of fresh ginger
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 2 ounces aged rum
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In a julep cup or large rocks glass, muddle the ginger until well crushed and juices are released.
  2. Add the mint leaves and maple syrup, and muddle until the mint is lightly bruised, swabbing the glass's sides with the aromatic oils.
  3. Stir in the aged rum.
  4. Half-fill the glass with crushed ice and stir to combine.
  5. Fill the glass completely with crushed ice and stir until the outside frosts.
  6. Add more crushed ice, heaping it generously, then garnish with sprigs of fresh mint.
  7. Serve with a short straw for an aromatic experience with each sip.
