Ingredients

  • 2 thin slices peeled fresh ginger
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 2 ounces aged rum
  • Crushed ice

Instructions

  1. In a julep cup or large rocks glass, muddle the ginger until well crushed and the juices are expressed.
  2. Add the mint leaves and maple syrup, then muddle until the mint is lightly bruised, swabbing the glass's sides with the aromatic oils.
  3. Add the aged rum and stir well.
  4. Half-fill the glass with crushed ice and stir to combine.
  5. Fill the glass completely with crushed ice and stir until the outside of the glass frosts.
  6. Add more crushed ice, heaping generously, then garnish with sprigs of fresh mint.
  7. Serve, adding a short straw if desired for an aromatic experience with each sip.
