Ingredients

  • 1 large tomato
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil
  • 1/2 tablespoon sea salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chipotle powder
  • 3 tablespoons horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Cut the large tomato into quarters.
  2. Use a juicer to extract the juice from the tomato.
  3. In a blender or food processor, combine the tomato juice, basil, sea salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and chipotle powder until well-combined.
  4. Pour the mixture into a pitcher and stir in the horseradish and lemon juice.
  5. Use a mesh strainer to separate the liquid from the pulp, reserving the liquid for the cocktail.
  6. Add the horseradish and lemon juice to the liquid mixture and stir well.
  7. Grind fresh black pepper in a small dish.
  8. Use the discarded lemon half to moisten the rim of a glass, then dip the rim into the dish of black pepper.
  9. Fill a low ball glass with ice and add 1 ounce of vodka.
  10. Pour the Bloody Mary mix over the ice and garnish with fresh basil.
