Ingredients

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of allspice and cloves
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • whipped cream (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of sugar until light.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the milk, cream, remaining sugar, and spices over medium heat until steaming, about 5 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  3. While whisking the egg yolk, slowly add some of the steaming milk, starting with a few drops and then pouring in a thin stream while whisking. Once about 1 cup of milk has been added to the eggs, pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, whisking constantly.
  4. Stir in the bourbon and heat on low until the eggnog is hot and thick, about 5 minutes.
  5. Ladle the hot spiced bourbon eggnog into a glass and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
