Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon, plus more for garnish
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup bourbon or rum (optional)
- Whipped cream, for serving
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over low heat, combine milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla and gently bring the mixture to a low boil.
- In a small bowl, whisk egg yolk with sugar until it becomes pale in color.
- Slowly add the hot milk mixture to the egg yolk in batches, whisking until combined.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat until slightly thickened, ensuring it coats the back of a spoon but does not boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and, if using, bourbon. Refrigerate until chilled.
- When ready to serve, garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
