Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white rum
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • A few drops of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
  • Zest of half a lime

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the coconut milk and rum, then cover and let it sit at room temperature for 2 hours.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the evaporated milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lime zest. Infuse over low heat for 20 minutes without boiling.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat, stir in the rum-infused coconut milk, vanilla extract, and pour in the sweetened condensed milk while whisking continuously.
  4. Allow the mixture to rest for at least 4 hours in a cool, dark place to blend the flavors.
  5. Strain through a fine sieve and serve very chilled, with or without crushed ice.
