Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1.50 ounces fresh ginger root, peeled and minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cranberries
  • 4 ounces unsweetened cranberry juice
  • Ice
  • 2 ounces mead

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring the honey to a boil until it turns dark amber.
  2. Carefully add the orange juice and stir in the minced ginger, allowing it to steep for a few minutes.
  3. Blend the syrup and strain it to remove solids.
  4. Char the cranberries in a hot skillet, then transfer to a pitcher and add the honey-ginger syrup and cranberry juice.
  5. Cool the drink base completely and store in the refrigerator if not using right away.
  6. To prepare the cocktail, fill a highball glass with ice, add 4 ounces of the drink base along with several cranberries, and top with 2 ounces of mead. Stir gently and serve.
