Ingredients

  • 6 oz whole cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp lime juice
  • 3/8 cup orange juice
  • 1 1/2 oz cranberry syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz orange liqueur
  • Ice
  • Granulated or sanding sugar for rimming the glass

Instructions

  1. To make the cranberry syrup, combine all the syrup ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 10 minutes until the cranberries burst, then cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Puree the syrup in a blender and strain through a fine mesh strainer into a container. Refrigerate until cool; the syrup can be made up to 1 week ahead.
  3. Prepare the cocktail glass by wetting the rim with water or lime juice and dipping it into granulated or sanding sugar.
  4. Fill the glass halfway with ice.
  5. In a cocktail shaker, combine the cranberry syrup, tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously.
  6. Pour the cocktail into the prepared glass and enjoy.
