Ingredients

  • 1.50 oz good quality tequila
  • 1.50 ruby red grapefruits
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon agave nectar
  • Splash of sparkling water (optional)
  • Coarse salt and rosemary for rim garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven broiler.
  2. Cut one grapefruit in half and slice the other half into 1/2 inch slices, then cut these slices in half to create wedges.
  3. Place the grapefruit halves and slices on a cookie sheet.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and white sugar, then generously sprinkle the grapefruit halves and slices with the sugar mixture.
  5. Broil for 8-10 minutes until the grapefruit is caramelized.
  6. Squeeze the broiled grapefruit halves into a cocktail shaker; the juice should measure one cup.
  7. Add the lime juice, agave nectar, and tequila to the shaker, then add ice and shake well.
  8. Mix together coarse salt and dried rosemary on a small plate. Wet the glass rim and dip it into the salt mixture.
  9. Pour the margarita over ice and garnish with the broiled grapefruit wedges. Add a splash of sparkling water if desired.
