Ingredients

  • 3 oz coffee
  • 2 oz Kahlua
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur)
  • 1/2 oz aged rum (or white or dark)
  • Granulated sugar, for dipping the glass
  • Lemon wedge
  • 1 large spoonful sweetened whipped cream, whipped to soft peaks
  • Grated chocolate or fresh grated or ground nutmeg for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew the coffee and let it cool slightly.
  2. Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
  3. Use a lemon wedge to moisten a 1/2-inch band around the rim of the glass, then dip the moistened area in granulated sugar.
  4. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar on the outside of the glass until it turns brown.
  5. Add the coffee, Kahlua, triple sec, and rum to the glass and stir gently.
  6. Carefully float the whipped cream on top using the back of a spoon.
  7. Garnish with grated chocolate or nutmeg.
